How to Determine What Really Matters

Contemplation

We live such fast-paced lives now that reflection, focused presence, and silence are often absent. But take the time to contemplate and answer this question: If you only had six months left to live, how would you spend the time?

This is a sobering question but one that must be asked periodically to maintain your priorities. Before you answer, though, there are a few things to consider: You have no limitations in your final six months. There are no worries, no pain, you are in a good financial position, and you have a good amount of energy.

KEY QUESTIONS

1) What specific places would you visit?

2) Who would be the people you would meet with first?

3) What’s the most important message you would want to help others grasp?

4) On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you say you are living out these things today?

All of us can be more intentional with the people and things that mean a great deal to us. Questions like these help us live life with the end in mind. If we want to maximize our effectiveness as people and leaders, it is important to grasp who we are and who we want to be.
