Business Insider‘s Leo Babauta offers 17 tips for a minimalist vibe, and takes it a step further than just a clear desk, too. They recommend that you tend to all your flat surfaces: “Your tables, counters, desks, floors … keep them clear. If there’s a ton of clutter there now, see the rule below about decluttering on Saturdays. But if it’s doable, just start clearing whatever is on the floor (except furniture and the like). When you walk by the kitchen counter, look for things other than oft-used appliances to put away.” Babauta adds that “going from being overwhelmed with clutter to minimalism was a slow but rewarding journey, and now I feel happy every time I look around and see the lovely space around me.”

Most entrepreneurs spend a lot of time in their space, lovely or not. And more than that space needs to be clear to stay effective. Daniel Ortiz of the Latino Success Academy recommends at Forbes that we also should clear the brain: “Meditation has proven to be not only a great stress reliever, but also a way to enhance your intuition, lower your blood pressure, and help focus the mind. Starting a morning ritual of meditation, instead of checking emails and ‘likes’ on your social media, will help you become more successful as an entrepreneur because you are developing your mindset, your ‘inner game,’ which is key to your success.”
